Photograph on airlines ticket

The world is moving towards e-ticketing so that one does not need traditional ticket or papers. The code provided during eticketing is enough for travel. However, instead of eticketing concept, Nepal Airlines has gone back to traditional ticketing and even back to extra identification within the ticket. I have traveled more than 10 countries of the world but I have never seen photograph of traveler on ticket but I saw it on domestic flight of Nepal Airlines last month. I don't understand why one needs photograph on ticket? Is it due to security or other reasons? If it was due to security, when the country was in war, this type of photo graph was not implemented during that time also. Why the airlines didnot ask other identity of traveler during flight instead of photograph within a ticket? is still not understood by me. It doesnot look nice to have photograph on ticket anyway. If you don't beleive this, check the photograph of ticket. For somereason, the person's name and picture is covered.
