Beware of fraud, junk, lottery mail or emails

Email fraud, junk email, spam mail, hacking, lottery mail...

You may have received all or one of the above emails in your inbox. If not, I would like to aware of such emails/mails. I am not technical person so I just categorise such mails into following two categories.

You won millions or billions dollars!

You are selected from millions!

Your email id won lottery!

Confidential money transfer! etc etc

The above are the catchy titles or subjects to attract you. You will receive a surface mail or email from unknown address with such titles. The overall message focuses on lottery win or transfer of unknown deposit money to your account. The large sum of money may attract you to respond them with your personal information. I don’t know how they use your personal information but once you reply them, they will ask you to deposit some dollars (50-100 or more) for initial process. If you are not careful and transfer the money, then you are the victim of this fraud email or mails.

Recently, I got another type of fraud email from my own relatives email address. The message states about robbery and in trouble to return home. I was asked to deposit some money as help/loan. I was surprised to receive that email as the one who sent the email was with me that day. When I asked him about the email, he told me that he has sign in problem to his email account and someone must have hacked the email address. Hence, if your email is hacked, it is better to send email to your relatives and friends about it and not to trust on the emails received from that hacked email address. Otherwise in emotion your relatives or friend might loose some money for nothing.

One of my friends even told me about the conference organized by fraud people. The conference organizers are paying everything travel, lodging, food and conference materials but the registration cost is 40-100 or nominal cost. You will receive the confirmation letter required for visa process after paying the registration cost. When you approach the embassy, they find that the letter and organizers are all fraud. You lost your money and time.

Besides the above emails, you may receive numbers of unrelated emails about drugs, sex, items, earn money…. They are all about advertisements or spam. Some may have attached files of virus or data trackers.

Hence it is always wise to delete emails from unknown email address before opening it. Please confirm or verify the information through search engines before dealing with your personal information or money matters. Share your experiences with such fraud or similar email cases which help others not to repeat the similar mistake.
