Nepal's wetlands

RAMSAR Wetland convention is the convention on Wetlands, signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971. According to the official webpage (http://www.ramsar.org/) of the convention is defined as "the RAMSAR Wetland convention is an intergovernmental treaty which provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources".

Nepal accessed RAMSAR wetland convention in 1988. Currently, eight wetlands and lakes from Nepal are listed in RAMSAR wetland. Following are the wetlands from Nepal (date in parenthesis is the listing year).

1. Koshi Tappu wetland (1987)
2. Beeshazar and associated lakes (2003)
3. Ghodaghodi lake area (2003)
4. Jagadishpur reservoir (2003)
5. Gokyo and associated lakes (2007)
6. Gosaikunda and associated lakes (2007)
7. Phoksundo lake (2007)
8. Rara lake (2007)
